What Is A Family Life Educator?

Family Life Education is the professional practice of equipping and empowering family members to develop knowledge and skills that enhance well-being and strengthen relationships through an educational, preventive, and strength-based approach.

I have various titles. I’m a sister, daughter, wife, mother, and business owner. But my most significant role is that of a parent. The majority of daily tasks revolve around the wants and needs of those I’m responsible for.

What a wonderful role to have! And, yet, so many of us take on this mission without a single consideration for ourselves.

This is often true regardless of whether a parent maintains both household and career, stays at home full time, or manages something in between. We tend to put our needs last.

Unfortunately, change can be scary, especially if you don’t know where to start. My life was heading in a very different direction than I had anticipated.  I’d let my resume lapse along with my skills, connections and confidence. My sleeping patterns were a mess. I’d long given up my hobbies. “Now what?” I wondered.

It didn’t take long to discover I was far from alone. All around me, others were asking the same question: “Now what?” when faced with a transition. This was true regardless of whether it was a parenting concern, potential career change, pending divorce, an empty nest– anything big or little that changed their status quo begged that same question.

Life coaching was a natural fit in my effort to help women move forward. After receiving training and coaching sessions from mentor coach Marion Franklin, a Master Certified Coach (MCC is the highest level of certification you can receive from the acclaimed International Coach Federation), I designed a goal-setting program that helps individuals walk through their unique “Now What?” moment. Achieve Life Balance, LLC, is the result.

Achieve Life Balance is not a one-size-fits-all solution. My goal is to help clients find not only their own balance, but the balance of their entire household. Achieve Life Balance is not a pie-in-the-sky, follow your dreams and forget everything else, but rather an opportunity to blend your personal needs and passions with the real world and those that mean the most to you

Welcome to Achieve Life Balance

Parenting can be a struggle. And we, as parents, often feel alone on our journey.

My goal with Achieve Life Balance is to help you with your parental efforts and reassure you: you are not alone!

Research shows that parenting styles and methods have a permanent effect on your child’s future. Indeed, proper parenting has the potential to increase your child’s happiness, health, and success. Positive Parenting will change how you parent for life, and how your child views and manages the world from now and into adulthood.

Positive Parenting ensures parents are in full control of the household. When implemented properly, Positive Parenting creates an incredibly solid foundation for the entire family. Positive Parenting methods, once set into place can provide an amazing cohesive environment.

Teens need us just as much as toddlers. In fact, teens often have their own versions of temper tantrums or acting out. Like toddlers, teens are in that awkward stage of NEEDING independence (a must) while their life remains controlled by adults. Add peer pressure, social media, pressure to succeed in school and acquire the necessary skills to become an adult, fluctuating hormones, relationships, and so much more!

Testimonials From The Home Front

What My Kids Have to Say

Yes!  These are my real children.  No, I did not force them, bribe them, pay them, pressure them, or anything along those lines.  I asked my kids if they’d be willing to provide an honest testimonial on how they would describe the success of my parenting skills ~ after I dedicated my efforts to improve my parenting skills, earned my certification, and put my lessons to the test in the real world.

Susan Graham's daughter Lauren

Lauren Graham, 24

“My mom really changed when she started working on her certification and parenting knowledge.  She became a whole different person, a better parent. I’m always asking for her classroom management advice.

Nicole Graham, 21

Global Studies Student

“My friends tell me how lucky I am to have a mom who listens and supports me, even when we disagree. I have to admit she’s a great mom. I feel safe coming to her with almost anything.”

Brendan Graham, 18
